Three co-chairs lead the Steering Committee.

Bob Deibel, President / Owner, OfficeScapes

Bob Deibel is President and owner of the OfficeScapes Group, which holds six companies aimed at fitting out interior office space. He has served on several boards in Colorado, including the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Colorado Succeeds, and the University of Colorado at Denver School of Business Advisory Board. His interests include golf, cycling, fitness and all sports, music, and wine and he is passionate about Denver’s pursuit to become a world class city. He believes that high quality public education is at the very foundation of maintaining global competitiveness and healthy economic development for Colorado. In light of severe budget pressure, our state must ensure that public education funds are distributed most effectively in order to improve student outcomes. Bob is married with two active daughters, ages 17 and 13, and lives in Castle Pines Village. He graduated from Colorado College with a B.A. in Political Science.

Cary Kennedy, Former Colorado State Treasurer

Cary Kennedy is the City and County of Denver’s Chief Financial Officer and was appointed as Deputy Mayor by Mayor Michael Hancock on August 23, 2011. Previously, Cary served as State Treasurer in Colorado, a post to which she was first elected in 2006. Before running for Treasurer, Cary was budget analyst in Colorado Governor Romer’s Office of State Planning and Budgeting in the 1990s and then worked as a fiscal analyst for the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing. She left the department to lead a broad bi-partisan coalition to increase funding for Colorado’s public schools and helped pass Amendment 23 in November 2000. In 2004 and 2005, Cary served as policy director for House Speaker Andrew Romanoff and assisted in developing Colorado’s Referendum C, a “timeout” on Colorado’s TABOR law, which voters passed in 2005. Cary has a bachelor’s degree from St. Lawrence University, a master’s degree from Columbia University, and a law degree from the University Of Denver School of Law.

Chris Watney, President, Colorado Children’s Campaign

Chris Watney was named President and CEO of the Colorado Children’s Campaign, the state’s leading public policy and advocacy organization for children’s issues, in 2009. Prior to that, she served as Executive Vice President of the organization, working to increase access to health care for uninsured children, expand quality early childhood education for our youngest children and as a passionate advocate for education reform. Chris has also served as a spokesperson for U.S. Attorneys General Janet Reno and John Ashcroft at the U.S. Department of Justice, including serving as the spokesperson for the Oklahoma City bombing trials. She is currently the Chair of the Board of West Denver Prep charter schools and a recipient of the Livingston Fellowship for excellence in non-profit leadership.
